About the Speakers:

Professor Myron Scholes, PhD

Myron Scholes is Chief Investment Strategist at Janus Henderson Investors. In this role, he leads the firm’s evolving asset allocation product development efforts and partners with the investment team, contributing macro insights and quantitative analysis specific to hedging, risk management, and disciplined portfolio construction. Myron is also a member of the firm’s Solutions Group, a team that constructs multi-asset solutions for clients’ complex investment objectives. Among his many accomplishments, Myron is the Frank E. Buck Professor of Finance, Emeritus, at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he teaches courses including “Managing Under Uncertainty” and “The Evolution of Finance.” He is a member of the Econometric Society and in 1990 served as president of the American Finance Association. Myron is widely known for his seminal work in options pricing, capital market equilibrium, tax policies, and the financial services industry. He is a Nobel Laureate in Economic Sciences and co-originator of the Black-Scholes options pricing model, for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1997. He is a director of Dimensional Fund Advisors mutual funds and several other private companies and has served as an advisor to the Guangdong Provincial Government.

Myron holds a PhD from the University of Chicago. He has honorary doctorate degrees from the University of Paris, France; McMaster University, Canada; Louvain University, Belgium; and Wilfred Laurier University, Canada. He has honourary professorships from Nanjing University, Nanjing Audit University, and Xiamen University in China. He was awarded the Innovator of the Year Award from the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Derivatives Association. Additionally, he is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Myron has consulted widely with many financial institutions, corporations, and exchanges, and has lectured for many academic groups and other organisations around the world. He has 53 years of financial industry experience.

Andrew Hendry is CEO Singapore, Head of Distribution Asia at Janus Henderson Investors. In this role, his primary focus is to maintain, grow and diversify the distribution business across Asia (excluding Japan and Australia). Prior to joining the firm, he was head of distribution Asia Pacific at Aberdeen Standard Investments from 2018. He was a managing director at Westoun Advisors from 2016 and head of Asia Pacific, managing director with M&G Investments from 2011. Andrew began his career at The Capital Group Companies in 1998, most recently as director of global business development from 2002.

Andrew received his MA degree in economics and French from St Andrews University and an MBA from INSEAD. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and has 25 years of financial industry experience.

Alvin Ho is an experienced investment principal with a track record in private equity. He currently splits his time between managing a portfolio of private investments and institutional investing on one end, and handholding start-ups and grown-ups seeking new iterations on the other. In addition, he serves as a board member for listed companies and NGOs and is a member of investment committees for funds and platforms. Previously the legal and executive representative for the local currency funds incorporated in Beijing and Chengdu, Alvin was the Head of China for a regional private equity growth fund.

Ho holds various post-graduate degrees from Tsinghua University and London Business School and is on course to complete a Ph.D. with the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. He has authored two books in Chinese on the economics of sports.

Francesco is a Deloitte partner based in Hong Kong. In the firm, he is the Financial Services Industry Leader in Hong Kong, the Asia-Pacific Assurance leader for the Financial Services Industry and the Global Lead for IFRS Insurance Contracts.

For over thirty years, he has been a professional extensively engaged with the insurance industry. He acquired deep knowledge of some of the key European and Asian insurance markets and led several audit and advisory projects with multinational insurance companies in Hong Kong, London and Milan. He is an expert on insurance financial reporting, risk management and solvency capital regulations. As Deloitte leading insurance accounting expert he has written several publications and regularly speaks at conferences on insurance financial reporting as well its interaction with solvency capital regulations. Over the last few years he has expanded his expertise in the areas of climate and sustainability reporting.

He has been a member of several advisory committees for regulators in Italy, the UK, the European Union and in Hong Kong. He is one of the advisors to the International Accounting Standards Board in London and a member of their IFRS 17 Transition Resource Group. He recently completed his three-year term as the Chairman of the Insurance Regulatory Advisory Panel of the Hong Kong Institute of CPA (HKICPA). He is a member of the Insurance Future Task Force of the Hong Kong Insurance Authority and of the Insurance Advisory Panel at the HKICPA.
