Richard Mak, CFA

President

Richard Mak has served as the Head of Product and Business Management – Asia of Pictet Wealth Management since January 2020. He is responsible for the product development and business risk management of the Asia Investment Platform. He joined Pictet in 2011 to lead the Asia Advisory Team providing investment advice to high net-worth investors in Asia. Prior to joining Pictet, he was the Head of Advisory-Asia at BNP Paribas Wealth Management.

Richard has more than 30 years of experience in the finance industry, including 17 years in equity investments, and he has been advising private clients on global investments since 2003.

Richard graduated from The University of Hong Kong with a Bachelor of Social Sciences. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and has been a member of CFA Institute since 1993. As well as his Presidency at CFA Society Hong Kong, Richard is also the Chairman of the Men’s Section of the Hong Kong Hockey Association, and he was President Council Representative of Asia Pacific Region of CFA Institute between 2004 and 2008. 

Alvin Ho, CFA

Vice President and Society Secretary

Mr. Alvin Ho, CFA, is an experienced investment principal with demonstrated track records in private equity. He is skilled in PE-styled investing, deal structuring, due diligence, corporate finance, IPO, and business re-engineering.  Acting as a managing director of a private investment vehicle, he looks to invest in several high growth sectors. Besides serving as a board member for several listed companies, he is also a member of the investment committees for several investment funds, platforms or foundations. Alvin was previously the legal representative or executive representative for the local currency funds incorporated in Beijing and Chengdu, and the Head of China for the private equity growth fund managed by the CLSA Capital Partners. The latter’s portfolios include companies that have grown into blue-chip status in various jurisdictions in Asia.

Alvin holds various post-graduate degrees from Tsinghua University and London Business School. He is currently an advisor to university programs. Alvin has authored two books in Chinese on the economics of sports, the latest being《超級巨星經濟學》 (or Superstar Economics).

William Leung, CFA

Treasurer

William Leung has been a Partner and member of the Investment Committee at Overlook Investments since 2017.

William joined Baring Asset Management in 2003 as an Investment Analyst, before taking on a similar role at HSBC Asset Management in 2004. In 2005, he joined Acru Asset Management, where he was responsible for co-managing the Acru China Absolute Return Fund, a value-driven Greater China hedge fund. In 2015, he established Fundatech Capital, his own boutique investment fund which made long / short investments in Asia. 

William graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance from the University of British Columbia in 2001. He received a Master of Science in Financial Engineering from Columbia University in 2002.

Ashley Khoo, CFA

Director

Ashley Khoo is an asset management and investment banking professional with extensive buy-side and sell-side experience, including portfolio management, fundamental, quantitative, and pre-deal research covering Asian and China markets, multi-asset class investment, and Big Four financial advisory.

As a board member, Ashley has spearheaded the launch of the Asset Owner Series in Hong Kong – the first location outside of New York. Ashley is also a CFA Institute Presidents Council Governance Committee Member, an Honorary Advisor and Investigation Committee Member of the Financial Reporting Council, and an Expert Advisor, Council Member and Vice Chair of the Investment Committee of the Institute of Financial Technologists of Asia.

Ashley holds a Master of Economics from The University of Hong Kong and a Bachelor of Science from Indiana University Bloomington, with a double major in Accounting and Computer Information System. She is also a CFA Charterholder and a CPA.

Alfred Lau, CFA

Director

Alfred Lau has been the Investor Relations Manager at MTR Corporation since 2018. Prior to joining MTR Corporation, he was the Executive Director, Head of Property & Gaming Research at BOCOM International Research.

Alfred has more than 15 years of experience in the financial industry, with 12 years in sell-side equity research. He holds the CFA designation and has been a member of CFA Institute since 2009. He is also a Financial Risk Manager (FRM) and CESGA Charterholder. 

He graduated from The University of Hong Kong with a Bachelor of Economics and Finance.

Prof. Raymond Tsang, CFA

Director

Prof. Raymond Tsang is currently an Associate Professor of Practice at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (“CUHK”) and a Founding Fellow of the CUHK’s Engineering FinTech Applied Research Academy. 

Alongside teaching in the areas of financial engineering and financial technology, he also provides career advice for students, as well as performing liaison work connecting the finance industry and academia. Before joining the academic world, Raymond was a rate derivatives trader at Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, BNY Mellon, Susquehanna International Group and Bank of Canada. He has covered markets in Canada, the United States and the APAC region.

Raymond received his Bachelor of Commerce in Finance and Management Information System from McGill University, and a Master of Science in Financial Mathematics from the University of Chicago. He is a CFA Charterholder and a Financial Risk Manager (FRM). Raymond is also a Hong Kong Football Association License D football coach and is actively involved in other sports activities.

Adam Wong, CFA

Director

Adam Wong is currently an Executive Director at a global bank. He was previously an Ultra High Networth Banker and co-chair of the Asia Advisory Council of JP Morgan Private Bank, advising CEOs and COOs in Asia on various core issues, including technology innovation and adoption, and business efficiency.

Adam is one of the co-founders of the running team as well as the Mentorship Program of CFA Society Hong Kong. He also chairs the Continuing Education Committee and the Member Services Committee – Networking Events Sub-group.

Adam graduated from The University of Hong Kong with First Class Honours, majoring in Economics and Finance. He is a CFA Charterholder and a Financial Risk Manager (FRM), as well as an AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner. He is also a passionate triathlon athlete and reader, a tech innovator, and a devoted mentor.

Felicia Wong, CFA

Director

Felicia Wong is currently a Vice President in the Internal Audit Division at a leading US investment bank, with primary coverage in Institutional Securities Sales and Trading business. 

She has more than 10 years of experience in the financial industry, including prior work experience at Goldman Sachs (Asia) LLC providing audit coverage in Institutional Securities and Risk Management from 2012 to 2015. Prior to that, she was with Bank of Montreal in Toronto as an Audit Manager and Quantitative Specialist, later transitioning to Capital Market Treasury, where she provided risk oversight on liquidity and funding, before moving to Hong Kong in 2012. 

Felicia is a CFA Charterholder and a Financial Risk Manager (FRM). Felicia holds a Master of Mathematical Finance from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Applied Science from the University of Waterloo.

David Ching, CFA, is currently Head of China Strategy and Head of China Basic Materials/EV & Battery Materials research. He ranked in the top 3 of the Institutional Investor All-Asia/All-China Research Poll 2018–20 and was awarded the “Best Stock Picker” award by Starmine in 2020 for the Basic Materials sector.  

David has over ten years of equities research experience, having covered the Asia-Pacific Materials, Oil & Gas and Industrial sectors at top-ranked teams at Morgan Stanley and Bank of America Merrill Lynch before joining Macquarie in 2018. Prior to research, David held various corporate finance and strategy-related roles at Jardine Matheson.  

David is a first-class honours graduate from the University of Oxford with full scholarship, where he majored in Engineering, Economics and Management. He is a CFA Charterholder and a CIMA-qualified accountant. David is also the President of Oxford and Cambridge Society of Hong Kong. 

Janet Li, CFA

Janet Li, CFA, MAoF, is a Partner and the Wealth Business Leader, Asia at Mercer. She oversees and is responsible for Mercer’s Wealth (Investment and Retirement) Business in Asia. In her role, she leads and drives strategic growth to the business as well as its operations and implementations. She has vast experience working with institutional clients and financial intermediaries. Her experience also spans across a wide range of retirement and investment services and a diverse range of asset classes.

She is currently serving as Human Capital Committee Member of the Financial Services Development Council, Honorary Advisor and Compensation and Nomination Committee Member of the Financial Reporting Council and Hang Seng Index Advisory Committee Member. Janet is an Adjunct Associate Professor of The Faculty of Business and Economics at The University of Hong Kong.

Janet graduated with Bachelor Degree of Economics and Finance from The University of Hong Kong and is a CFA Charterholder.

Ning Lin, CFA

Ning Lin, CFA,  is currently Managing Director of China International Capital Corporation Hong Kong Asset Management Limited. Ning has over two decades of uniquely distinguished experience with top investment banks in the US, Europe and Asia; buy-side and sell-side; proprietary investment and asset management. Ning started his career at Lehman Brothers in 1999, and worked also at Nomura International after the merger in 2008, as a fixed income trader. From 2010 to 2016, he worked at UBS as Managing Director and fixed income trading head in APAC. Ning also served as Executive Officer (EO) representing UBS AG under HKMA. Ning was Partner and CEO of 9M Stone Capital Limited before joining CICC in 2017.

Ning holds a Master’s degree in Business.

Ning was named “CEO of the Year, Hong Kong” by Asia Asset Management in January 2022.

Erwin Sanft, CFA

Non Executive Director

Erwin is a founding partner of Pasaca Capital. He has a quarter century of experience in equity research. Erwin was head of China research at BNP Paribas, CLSA and Standard Chartered Bank and head of China strategy at Macquarie Bank. He also worked as a senior portfolio manager at E Fund Management, China’s largest mutual fund manager. Erwin has managed research teams in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing and authored many groundbreaking reports on China equities. He moved to China in 1992, studying at Nanjing University before working at the New Zealand Consulate-General in Shanghai. Erwin has been a CFA Charterholder since 2003.  

Erwin holds Bachelors degrees in Economics and Finance from the University of Auckland, New Zealand, and graduated from the International Student Program in Chinese and Economics at Nanjing University, China.
