‘Conflict minerals’ – tin, tantalum, tungsten, gold and increasingly cobalt – are ubiquitous in modern life. Essential components in everything from our personal electronics to green technologies contributing to a lower carbon future. The global demand for these materials is set to rise exponentially to support the net-zero transition, however they are often mined in fragile countries, perpetuating cycles of violence, exploitation and human rights abuses. The human tragedy associated with conflict minerals also poses supply chain and reputational risks for companies in various sectors including semiconductors and electronics.
Working in collaboration with the PRI and Responsible Minerals Initiative and supported by 200 investors managing US$6tn in assets globally, Stewart Investors is helping to raise these issues with senior company leaders and promote new strategies for eradicating conflict minerals from company supply chains.
Sandwiches and drinks will be served at the event.
