About the Speakers

Mr. Mewan Gunawardena, CFA

Mewan Gunawardena is a seasoned banker with nearly two decades of experience in Global Markets. He has honed his skills in sales and trading of both fixed income (FI) and foreign exchange (FX) products, with a keen eye for optimizing balance sheet efficiency.

Currently serving as the Head of Asset and Liability Management (ALM) at Sampath Bank PLC, a prominent private bank in Sri Lanka, Mewan leverages his expertise to oversee balance sheet strategies, ensuring alignment with the bank’s objectives while managing risks effectively. His proficiency in balance sheet management contributes to Sampath Bank PLC’s position as a leading player in the Sri Lankan financial landscape.

Mr. Aidan Yao, CFA

Aidan Yao is a macroeconomist, with more than 16 years of working experience in both public and private sector organizations. He is currently the Chief Global Economist at Long Shine Asset Management. Prior to it, he spent almost 10 years managing Asia macro research for AXA Investment Managers. Before entering the private sector, he was a research manager at the Hong Kong Monetary Authority from 2011 to 2013, and senior economist at the Reserve Bank of New Zealand from 2007 to 2011. Aidan holds a master degree in economics and finance from the University of Otago (NZ), and is a chartered financial analyst.
