We invite you to join us at “ESG Investing Masterclass – Carbon Markets”, an engaging event that will highlight the latest opportunities in the carbon markets.

Hong Kong is making strides in this area with a number of initiatives including the launch of Core Climate by HKEX.  Our speakers will discuss how Hong Kong can capture carbon markets opportunities and the city’s journey to becoming one of the world’s leading financial centres for sustainability.

About the Speakers

Mr Ken Chiu
Head of Carbon and ESG Products
Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited

Ken Chiu serves as Head of Carbon & ESG Products at HKEX since 2022, responsible for fostering the Carbon & ESG product businesses for the exchange. He recently has led the team to successfully establish and launch the first brand new voluntary carbon marketplace at HKEX.

Mr Chiu has more than 15 years of experience in the industry. He has worked in various functional areas including structuring and marketing positions in global markets of investment banks in both Hong Kong SAR and Mainland China. He has also been actively engaging in RMB internationalisation and cross-border business activities since 2009.

Mr Chiu joined HKEX in 2018. Prior to his current role, Mr. Chiu was Senior Vice President of Fixed Income and Currency (FIC) Development responsible for FIC derivative and bond listing businesses at HKEX. He holds an MSc in Mathematics for Finance and Actuarial Science from the Université Paris-Dauphine and a BBA in Finance from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Dr Rocky Tung
Director & Head of Policy Research
Financial Services Development Council

Dr Tung is the Director & Head of Policy Research for the Financial Services Development Council (FSDC). He leads the team responsible for conducting policy research and industry surveys for the formulation of proposals to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and financial regulators.

Prior to joining the FSDC, Dr Tung was the Director of Capital Markets Policy for CFA Institute, covering research areas related to capital market structures (e.g. corporate governance, regulatory environment) in the Asia Pacific region. Before that, he was the Senior Economist for the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, where he oversaw its macroeconomic research, as well as labour- and international trade-related policy research functions. He also served as an economist and a research analyst for banks, a trade credit insurer and a Hong Kong-based think-tank.

Dr Tung holds a doctoral degree in organisational leadership from Northeastern University in Boston, and is a Fellow of CPA Australia. He received a Master’s degree and a Bachelor’s degree, both in Economics, from the University of Hong Kong and the University of Wisconsin – Madison, respectively.

In his personal capacity, Dr Tung sits on the Citizens Advisory Committee on Community Relations of the Independent Commission Against Corruption and is the Convenor of its Media Publicity and Community Research Sub-Committee. He is a director of the Executive Committee of the Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department’s Youth Engagement Programme and a member of the Editorial Board of FinanceAsia.

Mr Isaac Yeung Chung-kwan
Head of Corporate ESG / Head of Corporate Affairs
The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas)

Having served at The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas, HK.0003) for over 30 years, Isaac Yeung’s experience spans ESG, company secretarial services, human resources, project investment, corporate affairs and beyond. He sits on the board of directors for multiple major gas companies with businesses across the Chinese Mainland.

As Secretary of the ESG committees of both Towngas and Towngas Smart Energy Company Limited (HK.1083), Isaac initiated and organised the first national ESG forum by a gas company on the Chinese mainland back in 2012. Thereafter in 2013, he made ESG reporting an imperative item on the agenda of annual board meetings for the gas joint venture companies of the Group on the mainland, and initiated the publication of the first ESG report in the city gas industry. He orchestrated the first Nature-Related Directive Guide amongst listed companies in Hong Kong in 2022, and the Guide referenced to the Task Force for Nature-related Financial Disclosures framework.

Isaac is an Associate of the Hong Kong Chartered Governance Institute with the designations of Chartered Secretary and Chartered Governance Professional. He is a member of the Steering Committee of the Climate Governance Initiative HK Chapter and a member of the Hong Kong Professionals and Senior Executives Association.

Isaac holds a Master of Business Administration degree from City University of Hong Kong and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Mr Tim Chan, CFA (Moderator)
Pillar Head of ESG, Continuing Education Committee

CFA Society Hong Kong

Tim Chan is the Head of Sustainability Research (Asia Pacific ex Japan) at a bulge bracket investment bank and heads the ESG pillar under the Continuing Education Committee of CFA Society Hong Kong. 

Previously, Tim was a senior ESG analyst at Manulife Investment Management where he led the ESG integration, research and engagement efforts in North Asia. Before that, he worked as an advisory manager at Ernst & Young within their climate change and sustainability services team. 

Tim holds a bachelor of science in molecular biotechnology from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and a master of science in environmental management from the University of Hong Kong. He is also a CFA charterholder, a chartered environmentalist and an EFFAS certified ESG analyst. Tim currently sits in the Advisory Board for Division of Environment and Sustainability, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). 

Rating Intermediate – Material presented will have technical elements requiring a working knowledge of the subject to make full use of the presentation.

  • Refund of the event fee (less an administration fee of HK$50 per person) will be given for cancellation received on/before Friday, 18th August 2023.
    – For payment made by credit card, a refund will be handled through the bank, please allow 4 to 6 weeks for processing. The amount will be refunded to the paid credit card account. 
  • No refund will be given for cancellation received after Friday, 18th August 2023.
  • Substitutions are allowed. Please notify us prior to the event. Non-member rate applies if the substitute is not a CFA Society Hong Kong member.
