As financial datasets expand and portfolio construction models grow increasingly complex, traditional CPU-based optimization often becomes a bottleneck for real-time decision-making and large-scale back testing. This session explores the paradigm shift toward GPU-accelerated mathematical programming, focusing on how modern solvers like the Cardinal Optimizer (COPT) are redefining the limits of quantitative finance.
Attendees will gain practical insights into how these advancements translate to real-world financial use cases, including factor model-based portfolio construction, risk management, and high-frequency trading. We will also address the practical implications of hardware investment, discussing why optimization research sometimes yields different outcomes on CPUs versus GPUs, and how quants can leverage these differences to explore broader investment universes with greater precision and speed.
About the Speaker
Mr. Tiancheng Zhang
Tiancheng Zhang is a Director at Cardinal Operations, where he leads product operations and delivery for their flagship mathematical solver, COPT. His work focuses on the deployment of high-performance optimization engines across diverse industrial sectors. Notably, these solutions have been adopted by global financial institutions including AllianceBernstein, AXA, CITIC Securities, and China Merchants Bank. Outside of his professional duties, Tiancheng is an active contributor to multiple academic and professional communities in operations research, bridging the gap between cutting-edge academic research and institutional application.
