Leaders attending the COP26 in Edinburgh, UK, urged all countries and all people in the global village to step up actions in achieving Carbon Neutralization so that climate changes can be combated as soon as allowable. Yes, the recorded high temperature this year (as high as 22 degrees celsius) in Longyearbyen, Svalbard Isles (78-79 degrees N in the Arctic Cycle), has caught the eyeballs of most environmentalists and polar researchers. It is noteworthy that climate change has also resulted in significant loss of the total area of Permafrost and a decrease in biodiversity. Prof. K. C. Ho, a polar researcher of Hong Kong who spent most of his retirement fund in establishing the Bauhinia Research Station in Svalbard Isles has experienced the decline of glaciers and observed the widespread growth of mosses, grasses, macroalgae, and other intrusive plants in the Polar Regions.

They make land unexpectedly spoiled and green. According to his own research results over the past 28 years, harmful algal bloom (commonly known as ‘red tides’) occurs more frequently now that represents pollution and global warming. If we do not step up actions in environmental management, the consequences would be tragic. We are at the critical moment – either take care of the mother Earth by sustainable business and policies, and community actions, or we would face the striking back of nature.

Achieving carbon-zero and advancement in a low-carbon society, by so-called ‘circular economy’ is fundamental. Think globally, act locally, immediately without delay!
