In the volatile credit market, we are glad to invite Mr. Gordon Tsui, CFA, Managing Director and Head of Fixed Income, Ping An of China Asset Management (Hong Kong), and Mr. James Wong, Portfolio Manager of Gaoteng Global Asset Management, to share some insight on the outlook of Asian credit market, and the relevant skills of fixed income portfolio management.

Mr. James Wong

James has almost 19 years of investment and research experience in fixed income, including 10 years of China USD bond investment experience.
James currently manages “Gaoteng Greater China Select Bond Fund” plus other high yield fixed income mandates from outside clients. He is regarded as one of the experienced high yield bond investors within the industry.
James served as a Deputy Fixed Income Chief Investment Officer at BOCHK Asset Management Limited overseeing all high yield fixed income-related investments of about USD1.0 billion for the company. The two high yield public bond funds under his management were awarded Best RMB Bonds, Offshore <3 Years (2014, 2015) & 5 Years (2016, 2018)> by Asia Asset Management, Best-in-Class of High Yield Fixed Income (2015, 2018), Best-in-Class of RMB Fixed Income (2014, 2018) and Best-in-Class of China Fixed Income (2017) by Benchmark, Best Total Return-Greater China Fixed Income, 1st Runner-up <3 Years (2018, 2019) & 5 Years (2019)> by China Asset Management Association of Hong Kong/Bloomberg, and One Year Overseas Golden Bull Mutual Recognition Fund (2018) by China Securities Journal.
Personally, James was awarded The Most Astute Investors in Asian G3 Bonds by The Asset for SIX times from 2013 to 2022, and The Most Astute Investors in Asian Local Currency Bonds in 2015. Prior to BOCHK, Mr. Wong performed various investment and research duties at Standard Chartered Bank, Moody’s Investors Service, BNP Paribas, Sumitomo Trust & Banking and Merrill Lynch & Co.

Gordon Tsui is a seasoned bond fund manager with more than two decades of financial market experience. He previously led the fixed income team at Taikang Asset Management (Hong Kong) and managed the USD bond portfolio of Taikang Insurance Group Inc. Prior to this role, Gordon was Deputy Chief Investment Officer of Hang Seng Investment Management and Lead Fund Manager of Hang Seng RMB Bond Fund, which won the “Best in Class” award in 2014 for “RMB Bond” category in Hong Kong by Bloomberg Businessweek. Gordon obtained first class honours degree in Economics from the LSE on Sir Edward Youde Scholarship awarded by Hong Kong SAR Government. He stationed in New York as Representative of Hong Kong Monetary Authority between 2001 and 2004.

Mr. Edwin Fan is an investment counsellor of a global private bank. Edwin served as the Director of Fitch Ratings for 5 years, and was responsible for China Property and SOE credit rating and research. Prior to that, Edwin has more than 10 years of Asian equities experience with different financial institutions including Jefferies, BOCI securities, RHB securities and BNP Paribas Investment Management. He also served as a volunteer of CFA Society Hong Kong since 2016.
Rating General- Material presented will be basic and of interest to a general audience having no background in the area.
