Artificial intelligence and big data have started to transform how businesses operate and the investment industry is no exception. Handbook of Artificial Intelligence and Big Data Applications in Investment recently published by the CFA Institute Research Foundation provides an overview of how these advanced technologies are being used by leading industry players around the world in the actual investment process. Larry Cao, CFA, the handbook’s editor, will share the main findings of the handbook by focusing on “applications that work”, rather than white papers or proof of concepts.

Larry Cao, CFA, is senior director of research at CFA Institute. His research interests include multi-asset strategies and fintech, such as artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and blockchain. Mr. Cao has led the development of a series of research publications on fintech and AI in investments, including “AI Pioneers in Investment Management”, “T-Shaped Teams: Organizing to Adopt AI and Big Data at Investment Firms”, and the latest “Handbook of Artificial Intelligence and Big Data Applications in Investments”. His book “Multi-Asset Strategies: The Future of Investment Management” has been translated into Chinese. Mr. Cao is a frequent speaker at industry conferences on these topics.

Mr. Cao has over 20 years of investment industry experience, having worked as an investment manager in both Asia and the U.S. Mr. Cao has been interviewed by numerous business media outlets, including Bloomberg, CNN, the Financial Times, the South China Morning Post, and the Wall Street Journal.

• To qualify for CPT/CE hours, all participants must attend the full event. After the seminar, Society staff will verify participants’ check-in and check-out time from the registration system for the purpose of issuing CPT Attendance Letters. No pro-rata credit hours will be awarded.

• The event will be conducted in English.
• For attendance-taking purpose, participants’ names and company names (if any) may be given to the speaker of this event.
• Should there be any changes to the event dates and other arrangements, we will notify participants via SMS and/or email.  Notices will also be posted on Society’s website.  Please stay alert with our notifications.
• Please note that no request for an attendance letter will be processed after the event date & registration deadline.
• For non-members & guests, registration is only confirmed upon receipt of payment. 
• An additional administrative charge of HK$50 will be charged for participant who registers on the event day.
• HK$50 walk-in surcharge is imposed on all fees listed.
• To cope with the growing trend of going cashless, cash and cheque payment is strictly not accepted.  Please ensure the online payment is successfully completed, otherwise, the registration may not be processed.
• Registrations should be paid in full before the commencement of the event. Immediate payment is required upon email confirmation. Should the registration fee remains outstanding, CFA Society Hong Kong reserves the right to disallow entrance to the event.
• Full amount will still be charged for no-show or enrolment made after Friday, 18th August 2023.
• An administration fee HK$50 will be charged for any cancellation of confirmed enrollment made on or before Friday, 18th August 2023. All cancellation requests must be made in writing and be confirmed by email from Society Hong Kong.
• Refund of the event fee (less an administration fee of HK$50 per person) will be given for cancellation received on/before Friday, 18th August 2023.
  – For payment made by credit card, a refund will be handled through the bank, please allow 4 to 6 weeks for processing. The amount will be refunded to the paid credit card account. 
• No refund will be given for cancellation received after Friday, 18th August 2023.
• Substitutions are allowed. Please notify us prior to the event. Non-member rate applies if the substitute is not a CFA Society Hong Kong member.
